The Restylane family of products
The Restylane family of products is a brand of hyaluronic acid dermal fillers, which includes Restylane Silk, Restylane Lyft, Restylane, Restylane Refyne and Restylane Defyne.
Each is a clear gel formulation of hyaluronic acid specifically formulated to act like your body’s own naturally produced hyaluronic acid. Each Restylane product is designed for a specific purpose.
Restylane Silk is the first FDA-approved product specifically designed for subtle lip augmentation and the smoothing of wrinkles around the mouth. It is composed of a gel that is smaller and smoother than other Restylane products, resulting in a softer, more precise result. It is ideal for restoring and enhancing the lips. Additionally, Silk is administered via ultrafine needle, which is designed for improved accuracy and precision.
Treated with 2 mL of Restylane Silk in the lips and perioral (lip) lines around the mouth, and 1 mL Restylane-L in nasolabial folds. 4 weeks after treatment.
Restylane Lyft is approved for cheek augmentation and the correction of age-related midface contour deficiencies, as well as the treatment of moderate to severe facial folds, such as the nasolabial folds (smile lines). Lyft is the first and only FDA-approved filler with the ability to provide fullness to the cheeks, as well as restore lost volume in the midface area. Lyft contains lidocaine which helps to reduce the discomfort during treatment.
Treated with 4 mL Restylane Lyft in cheeks, 3 mL Restylane in nasolabial folds and marionette lines, and 2 mL of Restylane Silk in lips and perioral rhytids. 1 week after treatment.
Restylane is used to add volume and fullness to the skin to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as the lines from your nose to the corners of your mouth (nasolabial folds). Restylane is also indicated for lip augmentation.
Treated with 3 mL of Restylane in the nasolabial folds, marionette lines, and upper lip, 3 mL of Restylane Lyft in the nasolabial folds and marionette lines. 4 weeks after treatment.
Restylane Refyne integrates with your skin to help smooth out the lines that run alongside the corners of your mouth (nasolabial folds and marionette lines) and the flexibility you need for natural-looking movement and expressions.
Treated with 1.5 mL Restylane Refyne to nasolabial folds and 1.0 mL Restylan Refyne to marionette lines. 2 weeks after treatment.
Restylane Defyne is designed to act like your body’s own hyaluronic acid to help smooth out deeper lines around your mouth (nasolabial folds and marionette lines) while letting you look more natural through a range of facial expressions.
Treated with 1.0 mL Restylane Defyne in the nasolabial folds and 1.0 mL Restylane Defyne in the marionette lines. 2 weeks after treatment.
Restylane products are approved only for patients over the age of 21.
Frequently Asked Questions
How is Restylane administered?
First, our clinician disinfects the area to be treated. A small amount of Restylane Fillers is then injected into the skin through a fine needle or blunt micro-cannula to fill wrinkles or add volume, shape your face or lips or rejuvenate your skin. After injection, our providers may gently massage the treated area to even out the result.
How long does the treatment take?
A treatment with Restylane does not take long. Depending on the area and indication, it takes approximately 15-45 minutes. A touch-up treatment is sometimes performed approximately two weeks after the initial treatment to optimize the results.
Is the treatment painful?
Some people may experience the treatment as a mild discomfort. Many Restylane products contain an integrated local anaesthetic, lidocaine, to provide you with a more comfortable treatment experience, and Restylane also comes with special needles for easy skin penetration.
Who should not have a Restylane treatment?
Patients with a known allergy to hyaluronic acid based products should not undergo treatment, nor should patients with bleeding disorders, or active skin disease such as inflammation, infection or tumors in or near the area to be treated. Discuss contraindications, warnings and precautions with our providers before Restylane treatment.
Can I have a Restylane treatment if I am pregnant?
These products have not been tested in pregnant or breastfeeding women.
How long do the effects of the treatment last?
As Restylane is a non-permanent injectable product, the effect gradually diminishes with time. In order to maintain the aesthetic result, touch-up treatments are recommended. Results may vary depending on treatments areas.
What should I apply or avoid after the treatment?
Avoid applying make-up to the skin immediately after treatment.
- Light cover up may be used to conceal any remaining redness after approximately 24 hours
- A yellow-toned concealer may be used to hide signs of bruising
- In order to cover up any redness, a concealer with a slight green/yellow tone is recommended
What are the possible side effects?
The most common side effects include treatment site reactions such as swelling, bruising, redness, pain, and tenderness. These side effects generally disappear within one week after injection. Other potential side effects can occur with dermal filler or Skinboosters injections.
